Optical ground wire (also known as an OPGW or, in the IEEE standard, an optical fiber composite overhead ground wire) is a type of cable.
OPGW 72 is used in overhead power lines. It can replace traditional static or earth wires on overhead transmission lines and can be used for telecommunication purposes as it contains optical fibers.
There are two basic types of fibre – multi-mode and single-mode. The OPGW 72 is a dual functioning cable. As a dual functioning cable, OPGW 72 serves two purposes.

The Installation of OPGW 72 is quite similar to that of conductors. In order not to cause damage or crush the cable, additional care must be taken to the use of the proper sheave or pulley sizes.
